Ever missed an opportunity? I sure have.
I’m sure you have missed an opportunity too. It’s fairly common to look back and think, “I should have done this instead”. What is it they say? Hindsight is 20/20. I know a lot of people that are thinking that right now about Bitcoin.
I look back and think about all the time I wasted not working on myself or building my brand/business. I have missed many opportunities in that category, but I’ll leave that for another day. After watching a personal development video today, I thought back about all of the people I lost contact with or didn’t really connect with. I should have. I had many opportunities in the military to make great connections and friendships, but I could have had more. Unfortunately, I was not personally prepared for those types of relationships. I was too focused on myself. Anyone that knew me in my 20’s (and maybe even now) will tell you that I was an extremely selfish person.
Since I started my first business, I have been actively working on personal development. I try to not get confrontational like I did in the past, and I try to encourage people whenever I can. I worked diligently on my official schooling and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration in 2017.
I have worked on my personal and professional development consistently for over four years, and don’t plan on ever stopping. I have learned about business opportunities that I had no real desire of attempting just so I could possibly help others in the future.
All of that being said, one of my personal goals is to help other people become successful. Whether it is their personal life or their professional life, I want to help as many people as I can. Everyone has struggled, and I am no different. But if I can somehow help another person achieve a goal they have set for themselves, I will have in-turn accomplished my goal. Business isn’t just about making a lot of money, it’s about helping others. Everyone has something they can help others with. Be a teacher. Share your knowledge and experiences. Listen. And I mean REALLY listen. Try to understand what someone else is experiencing.
I guess I’ll end this post with a couple of my favorite personal development books. The first is called The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman. This book has taught me how to care about other people and understand how they feel love. It has helped in my personal and professional life more than I can explain. The second book is called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen. It explains how little decisions towards a common goal will allow you to achieve that goal. It is my all-time favorite book. Definitely get a copy and read it. Buy a second one and share it. To date, my wife and I have given both of those books to five different people each saying that they have helped tremendously.
